Early Learning Centre Christchurch City

Our childcare centre is situated on the Ara Institute of Canterbury Christchurch campus. We are a whanau based Early Learning Centre, and the foundation of our centre’s philosophy embraces the holistic development and growth of tamariki, underpinned by Māori values and the provision of high quality early childhood education.

Mā te huruhuru, ka rere te manu.

The centre’s name originates from an ancient Kai Tahu waka. The purpose built centre reflects an outline of a ‘bird in flight’. This outline captures the essence of whānau aspirations for their tamariki to progress into the future as confident bi-cultural and bi-lingual citizens of Aotearoa. The inclusive nature of our centre also provides a pathway for whānau to develop their Te Reo Māori and knowledge of Te Ao Māori me ōna tīkanga in a safe nurturing environment.

We believe a culture of professional learning is firmly established within our centre. Thus contributing positively to improved outcomes for our tamariki and whānau alike. Whānaungatanga, manaakitanga, whakaute and aroha provide a strong foundation for the sustainability of our centre.

Te Waka Huruhurumanu ki Ōtautahi is managed by a committed, experienced, forward thinking team of trained kaiako / kaimahi and Pōari Mātua (Board of Trustees). We work together to provide the best possible outcomes for our tamariki.

Te Waka Huruhurumanu ki Ōtautahi (TWH) is a bi-lingual centre that prides itself on offering high quality bi-lingual early childhood education to all.

Holistic growth for tamariki, whānau and hāpori through Māori values, experiences and opportunities that foster a strong sense of self and identity. Tamariki graduate Te Waka with knowledge, skills and attitudes to reach their full potential.
